Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast (ADS-B) Deadline Approaches

Wichita, KS— ADS-B is transforming aviation. Increased safety, real-time precision, shared situational awareness, and advanced applications for pilots and controllers alike.  ADS-B fills the gap in radar positioning making you visible to other ADS-B In compliant aircraft.  Free traffic, weather, and flight information are available on ADS-B In receivers that can receive UAT broadcasts.  Beginning January 1, 2020, you must have ADS-B Out equipped to fly in controlled airspace.

The window for meeting the FAA NexGen mandates is quickly closing. According to Aviation Week, “only about 52% of business aviation aircraft that fly in U.S. Airspace are in compliance with the rule.” Those putting it off could find themselves grounded due to a logjam of last-minute installations as the deadline closes in.

This month the General Aviation ADS-B Rebate program was relaunched, and it will end on October 11, 2019. The FAA is offering rebates of $500 to “owners of fixed-wing, single-engine piston aircraft based on their purchase of avionics that have received an ADS-B Technical Standard Order authorization and meet ADS-B Out rule requirements.” To learn more about the rebate go to www.faa.gov/nextgen/equipadsb/rebate/
