Summary of Accountabilities

The Assistant Controller works closely with the Controller and other financial professionals to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Financial Reporting:
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Prepare variance analyses and explanations for management review.
  1. Budgeting and Forecasting:
  • Participate in the budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Analyze budget variances and provide insights to management.
  1. General Ledger Management:
  • Oversee the general ledger and ensure proper coding of transactions.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  1. Internal Controls:
  • Implement and monitor internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Assist in internal and external audits.
  1. Compliance:
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in accounting regulations and ensure compliance.
  • Assist in the preparation of tax filings and compliance.
  1. Financial Analysis:
  • Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Provide insights into financial performance and trends.
  1. Team Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with other departments and team members to gather financial data and support cross-functional initiatives.
  • Train and supervise accounting staff.
  1. Process Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement in financial and accounting procedures.
  • Implement changes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  1. Special Projects:
  • Participate in special projects, such as system implementations, mergers, or acquisitions.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent certification is often preferred.
  • Several years of experience in accounting or finance roles.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Communication Skills

  • Communicate financial information effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports for executive management.

Additional Requirements or Skills

Computer Skills:

  • Fluent in MS office applications including word, excel, access, and Microsoft outlook.
  • Must be able to adapt to new software easily.
